Dear First Grade Families,
Hello! Time is flying and lots of winter events are quickly approaching. Today is the holiday concert, please encourage your student to sing their songs at home tonight! We have been practicing in the classroom. We have worked hard this week, below are some of the things we did:
MATH: We learned about dimes, line plots, and practiced adding with dominoes. Please review trading coins for others of smaller or bigger values, counting, and addition.
LANGUAGE ARTS: Our story this week was “Space Pup.” We talked about fantasy stories, helping people, and dogs. We did not take a test on this story. We will be working with this story again this week. The test will be on Thursday of this week.
SPELLING: This week we worked with words that include the /u/ sound, as in the word bus. The students all did very well with this sound. There will be no spelling test this week.
ART: This week Mrs. Hoppe and Ms. Evans helped us make Rudolph crafts. These handprint ornaments were awesome!
SUPPLIES: First grade is in need of a few snacks other than pretzels. We love our pretzels but wish for a little variety, if you can help us with this need we would appreciate it greatly!
We are going to be working on a few crafts this coming week that involve paint. Please send your student an over-sized shirt or apron to use as a smock. Thanks!
We are looking for new parent volunteers to help us with our art lessons in January! Art is held at 2:10-2:45 on Wednesday afternoons. If you can help us with this program we would appreciate it greatly! Any sort of craft or activity will do! We’ve done everything from flower arrangements to coloring pages and we’ve had a lot of fun with it all! If you’re interested in participating with our class please let me know what date you can teach!
